Roslea Shamrocks deservedly secured the Reserve A Championship title with a seven point victory over Derrygonnelly Harps in Lisnaskea on Saturday.

The Shamrocks had enjoyed the better of the exchanges in the first half to go in at the break with a six point lead, 1-06 to 0-03. And they were add two further goals in the second half to keep a sizeable gap between the sides before eventually running out victors by 3-06 to 1-05.

Ruairi McGuinness was to account for the opening score of the game when he fired over from a ‘45 and the Roslea forward was to have a big influence on proceedings as he then teed up Diarmuid McAleer to give the Shamrocks an early 1-01 to 0-00 advantage.

Derrygonnelly’s first score did not arrive until the midway stage of the first half as Gary McKenna converted a free and the same player quickly followed up with a second point for his side as the Harps looked to claw their way back into contention.

Roslea though stamped their authority on proceedings after this with Michael Jordan landing two points in the space of two minutes while James Boyle quickly followed up with a point after a surging run to make it 1-04 to 0-02 in Roslea favour.

McGuinness and McKenna then traded frees but as half time approached another successful McGuinness free left Roslea with a six point advantage at half time, 1-06 to 0-03.

And that lead was increased to nine a couple of minutes into the second half when McAleer was taken down for a penalty and McGuinness stepped up to fire past Harps goalkeeper Jack Kelly.

Derrygonnelly went in search of a goal after this and landed a number of long balls on top of full forward Stephen McGullion but Roslea dealt well with this threat although McKenna did knock over a free while McGullion had an effort that hit the woodwork.

Any hopes of a Derrygonnelly comeback though were well and truly quashed when Roslea bagged their third goal of the encounter.

The lively McAleer raced through on goal and confidently drilled his shot into the top corner of the net to make it 3-06 to 0-04 with 12 minutes left on the clock.

Derrygonnelly kept plugging away and they pulled a goal back through Shane McGullion and Colm Jones tapped over a free to make it 3-06 to 1-05.

The game was to finish with three red cards as Roslea’s Dermot Reilly and Derrygonnelly pair Johnny McGurn and Ruairi Leonard were dismissed but it was Roslea’s day as they deservedly claimed the title.
