Fermanagh's John Duffy saw his performances in this year's Lory Meagher Cup rewarded at the All Star awards on Friday night as he was named the Lory Meagher Player of the Year.

As winners of the Lory Meagher Cup, Fermanagh had five players named in the Lory Meagher Champions 15 select with Duffy joined by teammates Daniel Teague, David Teague, Declan McGarry and Ciaran Corrigan in being recognised on the night.

The GAA GPA All-Stars banquet sponsored by Opel was held at the Convention Centre, Dublin and Duffy admits he was surprised to have won the Player of the Year award.

“It was a very enjoyable and well organised night and to have won was unexpected. I definitely didn't expect it as there was a lot of boys in the Fermanagh team who could have got it,” he said. “It is very nice to be recognised with such an honour but it was about the whole team performance more than anything else.”

Fermanagh will now move up to the Nicky Rackard Cup next season and Duffy says that the aim is to get a run in that competition in 2016.

“We would know a lot of the lads who played in the Nicky Rackard last year for various counties from having played against them in the league last year so it was good to have a chat with them off the pitch They were telling us that they thought we were a good team and the target for us now has to be to push on and get a good run in it next year. It will be good to test ourselves against these Nicky Rackard teams next season and and we would feel that we can hold our own against a lot of them,” he added.

Also in attendance on the night was Fermanagh footballer Sean Quigley who had been nominated for a football all star. The Roslea man was a pivotal figure in the sides run to the All Ireland Quarter-Finals and finished the championship as the second top scorer in the country.

The awards ceremonies continue this week with the Ulster GAA Writers Awards night in The Great Northern Hotel in Bundoran.

And there is plenty of Fermanagh interest with Sean Quigley and Brian McLaughlin nominated for Ulster Footballer and Hurler of the Year respectively while both Fermanagh footballers and Fermanagh Hurlers are among the three strong short list for Ulster Team of the Year.

Fermanagh PRO Pauric McGurn has also been nominated for the Communications Award.
