Irvinestown Wanderers 0

Enniskillen Town 4

Enniskillen Town's recent revival continued on Saturday as two goals apiece from Frank Wallace and substitute Johnny Hoy saw them secure a 4-0 win over Irvinestown Wanderers at the Bawnacre.

The season had got off to a poor start for Rory Judge's side but with four wins in a row Town are beginning to hit form although Judge says that they had to be patient to breakdown a stubborn Wanderers side on Saturday.

“Irvinestown were missing a few players but they were very resilient and you can see why they have picked up results because they have a game plan and stick to it. It meant that we had to be patient but when we got the second goal it left the result in no doubt,” said Judge.

And the Town boss is looking to keep their run going although he is aware that a more difficult test lies ahead on Saturday when they take on high flying Tummery.

“We have a bit of a good run going at the minute and I think the key is that the boys know what their role is within the team and what they are meant to be doing. I think the wins have also brought about more confidence and that has also played a part in our improved performances although we have a much sterner test ahead this weekend against a Tummery side that have been going really well. For us it is about taking it one game at a time and just trying to keep our winning run going,” said Judge.

On a day when the weather scuppered the majority of the Fermanagh and Western fixtures, Judge was full of praise for the Bawnacre for the condition of the top pitch.

"It was really difficult conditions but I have to say that the pitch was great and it is a credit to the Bawnacre," he added.

Wanderers joint manager Paul Cassidy had no complaints about the margin of the defeat.

“They were much the better side and of all the teams we have played this season they have been the best passing side we've played,” he said. “We tried to stick to the gameplan and then nick on the break but they got a goal before half time and we had to come out more in the second half and it left space for them.”

Town had a glorious chance to take the lead early on when Ciaran Brough rounded Fergal Murphy in the Wanderers goal but from an acute angle saw his effort cleared off the line by a covering defender.

An understength Irvinestown side set out to frustrate the visitors while also looking to nick a goal on the counter and they did look to get in behind Town on occasions although they over-ran the ball on a couple of occasions.

It was Town though who were carrying the greater threat and Sean Hynes should really have put Town ahead but he blazed over the bar from close range following a knock down by Mark Little.

The home side rarely threatened the Town goal but a chance did fall to Jack Keane however he could not get enough purchase on his header and it was easily gathered by Gary Doherty in the away goal.

The breakthrough though arrived for Judge's outfit just after the half hour mark and it was Wallace who was to grab his first of the day as he raced through and clipped the ball over Murphy to give the away side the lead at the interval.

Walllace then provided a moment of real quality to make it 2-0 as he collected possession on the left before shifting the ball to the right and curling a beautiful effort into the top corner.

Ryan Hanna and Gary Lynch had further chances to add to the Town advantage but they failed to find the target but the same could not be said about substitute Hoy who made an impressive impact on his introduction.

He got on the end of a Malcolm Crawford ball the back post before taking a touch and calmly slotting the ball past Murphy at his near post for number three and the same player made it 4-0 with a cracking goal. Hoy collected the ball on the left hand side of the box and jinked his way around a number of challenges before thumping a superb drive to the back of the net, giving Murphy no chance as Town ran out comfortable winners in the end.
