There was no shortage of success enjoyed by Fermanagh people at the Ulster GAA Writers' Association banquet in the Great Northern Hotel, Bundoran, last weekend.

Former Fermanagh manager and current Monaghan boss Malachy O'Rourke was awarded the top honour of Personality of the Year award while Fermanagh PRO Pauric McGurn claimed the Communications award at the prestigious ceremony.

Derrylin native O'Rourke has been a huge success since taking over the reins in the Farney County and last summer he led them to a second Ulster title with a well earned victory over fellow Fermanagh man Rory Gallagher's Donegal side.

Monaghan are now one of the most feared sides in the country and the affable and popular O'Rourke is a key component in their success and a deserved winner of the award.

The other winner on the night from the Erne County was PRO Pauric McGurn.

McGurn is coming to the end of his first year in office and has done a fine job in keeping the flow of information on everything GAA in Fermanagh going throughout the year. The Derrygonnelly Harps clubman

There was also plenty of other Fermanagh interest on the night.

Sean Quigley had made the three man shortlist for the Male Footballer of the Year but was pipped by Conor McManus of Monaghan to the award while hurler Brian McLaughlin was up among the contenders for the Hurler of the Year which went to Tyrone's Damian Casey.

And there were two Fermanagh teams among the three shortlisted for the Team of the Year award. Fermanagh footballers earned their place on the list following their great run to the All Ireland Quarter-finals were they were eventually beaten by the Dubs in Croke Park. While there was Croker success on an emotional day for the hurlers as they finally got their hands on the Lory Meagher Cup.

However, the Erne pair were edged out by Tyrone U21s for the honour, the Red Hands claiming the All Ireland title at the grade.
