Fermanagh Ladies are believed to be seeking an internal caretaker manager after the resignation of the joint management team Malachy Coyle and Paddy Fox.
The pair were only appointed five months ago but they let the Ladies County Board know of their decision to step down last Wednesday night.
In a statement the Fermanagh LGFA said: “Fermanagh LGFA wishes to announce that it has regrettably accepted the resignation of Paddy Fox and Malachy Coyle in the position as Fermanagh Ladies Senior Team Management.
“Since their appointment in November, they have welcomed past and new players on to the panel, in the acknowledgement that Fermanagh are in a period of transition and rebuilding for the future.
“We thank them for their commitment and efforts made with our senior ladies team during this time.
“Fermanagh LGFA County Board wish Paddy and Malachy every success and happiness in the future.
Fermanagh suffered some very heavy defeats during the Division Three campaign while a large number of last year’s squad were unavailable for selection this year.
Paddy Fox confirmed that he and Malachy Coyle had resigned from the position on Monday night.
“We are not involved any more,” he said.
“There just aren’t the players to work with and we decided to leave before the Offaly game. We let the County Board know last Wednesday night.”
Asked had they spoken to the players about their decision, Fox says; “No I only contacted the County Board.”
The Tyrone men took over from Aidy Little and Colum Monahan and for reasons unbeknown to them they lost 13 key players.
Coyle and Fox were adamant they were not going to personally ask players to come out but always left the door open to any player who wanted to play for the county.
Asked if they regretted their decision not to contact players as the results went against them, Fox says:
“No. I never lifted the phone to anyone. I said at the start of the year I wasn’t going to phone players and beg them to come out.
“If a player doesn’t want to come out and play for their county, then that is up to them.”
It has been a tough few months for the management, losing all of their league games in Division Three.
With the benefit of hindsight, would they take the job again?
“I did my best and Malachy did his best. The truth is they just weren’t good enough for Division Three.
“Losing 13 players from last year- it just made it impossible. I wouldn’t say I regret it because you do it for the love of the game. It’s something I love doing, if I didn’t, I wouldn’t be at it.”
