Enniskillen 1st XV will play in Qualifying League Section One next season following Bangor’s promotion to senior rugby.
Skins had produced a strong finish to the season to secure second spot in Qualifying League Two but defeat to Ards in the promotion play-off seemed to have ended their hopes of a return to the top league after a six year absence.
However, Bangor’s win over Clonmel in the All Ireland Qualifying last weekend has moved them up to senior rugby and out of Qualifying League One and Skins will now take their spot in league.
Coach Norman Richmond, who is also Club President, was delighted with the news.
“We’re very pleased, and myself as coach and President, I’m very happy for the club and especially for the players and supporters.
"We are now back where I firmly believe we should be. The performances that the boys have put in from mid December right through to the end of the season, I feel they warrant that promotion,” said Richmond.
One aspect of next season that Richmond is thoroughly looking forward to is the derby games against Clogher Valley and Omagh.
“It now gives us big local derbies next season against Clogher Valley and Omagh so that adds a bit more spice to the league.
"The derbies are special occasions for any of the clubs and the local rivalry between ourselves, Omagh and Clogher Valley gives an even greater interest to the league with the battle for bragging rights for the area,” he commented.
However, Richmond says that they won’t be resting on their laurels.
He is aware that the step up into Qualifying League One will see his side face better quality opposition next season and he already is targeting a summer of recruitment to meet the demands.
“Going into the league next year we need to consolidate our position within Qualifying One and we need to look at recruitment now over the summer to add addition depth to the squad,” he added.
