Tempo Maguires 0-04 Derrygonnelly Harps 5-10

Tempo manager Sean Breen said: “We were beaten by a far superior team” and that just about sums up this mismatch, on Sunday afternoon. Derrygonnelly, who only played one game at the weekend compared to Tempo who had travelled to Belleek on Friday night, were looking fresher and it reflected on the score board.
Tempo struggled early on, trailing 1-02 to no score after ten minutes. Garvan Jones got on the end of a fine run by Ryan Jones, netting their first goal after only five minutes. Paul Ward and Ryan Jones tagged on two points to extend the lead for the visitors.
Tempo responded to the early pressure from the Harps with three consecutive points from Conor Foy, Niall McElroy and Damien Kelly midway through the first half but goal scorer Garvan Jones increased Derrygonnelly’s lead once more with a point.
Leigh Jones landed a great score before the break for the visitors to leave the half time score 1-04 to 0-03 at the break.
Derrygonnelly picked up where they left off in the first half with string of scores. Leigh Jones added to his tally with an early free before Paul Ward picked off a terrific point from an acute angle. Then came the goal blitz, four goals in eight minutes left Tempo in disarray. Two from Stephen McGullion and one apiece from Paul Ward and Jonathon McGurn killed the game as a contest.
Ryan Jones, Paul Ward and Damian McCauley extended the Harps lead as the game petered out. Niall McElroy registered Tempo’s only score of the second half from a free on the 21st minute. It was definitely a day the home side would rather forget.
Asked what had happened his team, Breen said:
“They were the better team, they just waltzed through us. We held them to four points in the first half but in the second half our legs just went. Aidan Breen was carrying an injury from Friday night’s game and so was our other midfielder Thomas Campbell and the simple fact is, we didn’t want to have to play them but we had no one else. It was just one of those games.”
Derrygonnelly manager, Martin Greene was playing down the comprehensive win: “It probably flattered us a bit. We got four goals in eight minutes and that killed the game. We were that bit fresher because Tempo had a game on Friday night.”
Derrygonnelly play Irvinestown this weekend and Greene is anticipating a tougher game:
“It will be tough because they are setting the pace. They are a good group of players and are well organised under Shane Goan and Paul Courtney,” concluded the Harps’ supremo.
