In the second half, Maguiresbridge continued to control this game. Matthew Teague, Sean Corrigan, Rory Porteous, Andrew Breslin and substitute Mark Garvan all landed points and the sixth and final goal came from Ryan Hyde.
Devenish showed a slight improvement in the second half, kicking six points. Darren Brady, Terry O’Flanagan, Gerard Gallagher, Jarlath O’Brien and Barry Mulrone all registered points but it was never going to be enough to close the insurmountable gap that Maguiresbridge had created at the interval.
Devenish Manager, Malachy Cullen described the game as: “a non-performance. It was one of those days to wipe away and forget about. Maguiresbridge sensed we didn’t have our best team and took advantage of that. They got two goals early on and we never recovered from that.”
The Garrison men were without the services of county star Marty O’Brien who Cullen says still hasn’t fully recovered from a knee injury. John O’Flanagan and Ruairi Doherty were both ruled out with hamstring injuries while Eoin Maguire was also missing due to injury.
Maguiresbridge manager, Niall Jackman was pleased to get a victory:
“We’re delighted to get our first win. We’re particularly happy with the manner of how we played the game and the standard of our performance. In the last two games against Teemore and Erne Gaels we were well below the level we expect of ourselves, so to play and win like that yesterday (Sunday) was an important reminder to ourselves of what we’re capable of.”
