Fermanagh and Western referee Stephen Northern has been suspended from all affiliated football until September 1, 2017 and had a fine of £100 imposed in relation to his conduct during the Mageraveely v Mountjoy game on January 23, 2016.
Referee Northern from Omagh left the field of play and became involved with Magheraveely supporters in the 83rd minute of the game. Magheraveely at this stage walked off and subsequently put a letter into the Fermanagh and Western Football League asking that the referee never be appointed to officiate them again and looking for an apology.
Mountjoy United were winning 2-0 and Magheraveely had no dispute with the result which stood.
Mountjoy United also submitted a letter regarding the incident.
The Fermanagh and Western then referred the matter directly to the Irish Football Association who ruled last week after hearing deputations from both sides.
As a result, Stephen Northern will be suspended until September 1, 2017 after the IFA found him guilty of bringing the game into disrepute.
Referees’ chairman Basil Marshall commented: “We will continue to give our full support to Stephen but equally we cannot condone what happened no matter the provocation.”
The IFA statement said: “The referee was found to have breached Article 17 of the Articles of Association in that his actions during the match brought the game into disrepute.”
