Fermanagh junior Super Cup manager Denzil McDaniel admits that the past week is one he’s been dreading since he took on the post.
The final squad of 18 and now been selected, but the manager says there were some very difficult decisions.
“There’s a lot of ability in the squad and I’m pleased with it,” says McDaniel. “But there are some good players not included. Over 90 boys attended the trials and it was hard enough to tell many of them that they were excluded when we went down to 26.”
“But having to dash the hopes of another eight was fairly horrible. To their credit, the boys themselves took it well and I would encourage them to keep working at their game,” added the manager.
“Who knows, they could yet be called upon. If any of the 18 get injured, or indeed if they don’t put in the effort required, we’ll look at things,” he said. “But for now, our decisions have been made and we must now concentrate on that 18.
“The tournament is just over nine weeks away, so we’ve a lot of work to do,” he said.
