Derrygonnelly 2-14 Roslea 1-12

Derrygonnelly Harps once again showed an admirable finishing kick to secure the two points on offer in what was a repeat of last year's Championship final.
A cracking encounter throughout it was the Harps who found an extra gear in the final ten minutes to move just one point behind Erne Gaels at the top of division one with a game in hand.
“It was a really good competitive game and just like our last game against Ederney we were able to get a goal and a few points without reply when we really needed them and that was the difference in the end,” explained Derrygonnelly manager Martin Greene after the game.
Stephen McGullion scored both goals for the winners, flicking the ball to the net on each occasion and his opportunism, along with some guile and craft from some of the Harps more experienced players, was the difference between the sides on the day.
After a quarter of an hour just a single point separated the teams with Roslea leading 1-05 to 1-04.
Niall Cosgrove was the goalscorer for the visitors as his shot found its way to the net through a sea of players in the box. Sean and Seamus Quigley along with Shane Lynch had registered points for Roslea with Leigh Jones, Declan Cassidy and Paul Ward all raising white flags for the Harps.
The Quigley boys both landed points for Roslea in the second quarter but Derrygonnelly were beginning to take control and Leigh Jones, who was impressive throughout, hit a brace of scores to go with a Johnathan McGurn 50 to leave the home side ahead by the slimmest of margins at the break.
Seamus Quigley was in great form with his dead ball striking and he hit two points after upon the resumption along with a point from brother Sean but Paul Ward was keeping the scoreboard ticking over at the other end as he began to have more of an influence on the game.
With the sides all level and entering the final ten minutes the championship holders showed their class to take a grip of proceedings and hit three quick fire scores from Garvan Jones, Declan Cassidy and Stephen McGullion all pointing and although Seamie Quigley got one back for Roslea McGullion converted to the net again following a Paul Ward ball into the square to put the game beyond doubt as it entered the final minutes.
“We are really pleased with the win and we are also getting to see some of the younger boys in the squad step up and play, the likes of Leigh Jones and Conor Hoy played well and that is good to see at this stage of the season,” Harps manager Greene stated.
Derrygonnelly are making their intentions clear for 2016.
Just a point behind the leaders in the league and with a game in hand following last years double they remain the team to beat in Fermanagh in both league and championship.
