Roslea 0-21 Maguiresbridge 1-10

There was little Maguiresbridge could do about the result of this game such was the powerful forward play of the winners. Seamus Quigley in particular was a constant source of havoc to the Bridge defence but in general the Roslea attack were simply far too poised and slick with a number of their forwards putting in impressive performances.
In the first half the Bridge were only able to amass four points of their own with a combination of some poor finishing and the sheer domination of Roslea contributing to their low return. At the other end of the pitch there was no such problems for Roslea who were finding scores from all areas.
“It was a tough defeat for us. Our conversion rate was not anything near where it should be and we had a few players missing as well, not that we are using that as an excuse. We were beaten by the better team it is as simple as that,” was the appraisal of Maguiresbridge manager Niall Jackman.
The Roslea win and attacking play was all the more impressive given that they lost the services of Sean Quigley after just ten minutes following a black card. He had struck over one point before he left the scene to go with a Danny Mohan score before it was the turn of Seamus Quigley to take centre stage. The elder Quigley brother was in imperious scoring form throughout the game and he was on target from play and frees during the first half. Shane Lynch and Ruairi McGuinness were also on target as Roslea took a six point lead into the break.
The Bridge had first half scores from Sean Corrigan, Andrew Breslin and a brace from Ciaran Corrigan. Things did get better for the Bridge after the break when they answered a Seamus Quigley point with four quick fire points of their own with Daniel Teague accounting for most of these with accurate place kicking.
Quigley and co were not to take this lying down however with the big full forward being joined by Ruairi McGuinness and Niall Cosgrove in raising white flags with Quigley firing over an audacious sideline ball. To their credit the Bridge kept battling and Sean Corrigan dispatched a penalty while Ronan Teague kicked over a smart score from play.
It was a case of too little to late however as Danny Mohan and James McMahon added further Roslea scores. For their manager, Brian Gormley, there was a sense of satisfaction following the game: “It was a good win surely and there was plenty of men getting on the scoresheet which is always good to see. Seamus Quigley had a good game in attack but there was plenty of help for him too. It is still early days yet though and a long way to go in the league".
