Fermanagh Ladies Joint Manager, Emmett Curry described Saturday’s semi-final defeat, at the hands of Tyrone as:
“A gutsy performance. They never stopped trying and they played with their hearts.”
Last week, Curry said he wanted the girls to show “heart” and the Derrylin man got what he asked from his team.
“Even when we were losing, we kept going. We hit the crossbar and the post. If the game had gone another few minutes we would’ve given them a good game of it.”
Fermanagh’s experienced players were to the fore on Saturday and they really helped the younger players settle into the game, says Curry;
“Shauna Hamilton, Aine McHugh, Marita McDonald, Aisling Woods- they are great players and gave the team a real boost. Shauna Hamilton is as good a centre half back as there is anywhere and Marita played some great stuff too. Overall though, the performance from all the girls was good.”
Asked what he thought of Tyrone, who are playing intermediate football for the first time, having always plied their trade at senior level.
“Tyrone were strong and they lost Neamh Woods at half time which was a big blow to them.”
But Curry’s thoughts have already moved on to the next challenge, Down on June 18th when they get a second chance to claim an Ulster final spot:
“We are looking forward to it. We want to improve our performance and make less mistakes. Our ball handling just wouldn’t be good enough at the minute.
"But we’re definitely going into the game taking heart from that performance and we’ll need to play as good if not better to beat Down.”
