Whitey Anderson says that his Ballinamalllard players will be ready to play if their second leg clash against Institute is given the go-ahead.
The IFA have granted NIFL an extension to the season and the tie has been provisionally fixed for next Wednesday, June 15 at 7.45pm at Ferney Park although this is pending the outcome of Warrenpoint Town’s Arbitration Hearing which is scheduled to take place today (Thursday).
If Warrenpoint are to win their case then they will play two legs against Institute next week, the first game at Institute next Tuesday followed by the second leg at Warrenpoint on Friday.
Anderson says that this has been a stressful time for the club and has described it as ‘an embarrassing episode in the history of Irish League football’.
“The date is set and if we are needed to play we are ready. It all depends on the arbitration result on Thursday.
“ It has been a stressful time for the people at this club but the target still remains in that our Premier League status is at stake.
“It has certainly been an embarrassing episode in the history of Irish League football,” he commented.
Whitey also called for a good support to get behind the team if the game does go ahead.
“It would be great for the players to get a good support on Wednesday evening. They have been put through the grinder in recent weeks and deserve all the backing they can get.”
This has all arose due to the ongoing Gary Haveron case.
The former Carrick Rangers manager failed to properly serve a three game touchline ban, sitting out a game he wasn’t suspended in and was then on the line during the win over Dungannon Swifts when he was meant to be suspended.
The IFA’s Disciplinary Committee found Haveron guilty but they opted not to impose the sanction of reversing the result to a 3-0 win for Dungannon and a £350 fine for the club.
If the sanction had been imposed then Carrick would have been relegated and Warrenpoint would have gone into the play-off.
The knock on of that would have been that Ballinamallard would have been safe.
After an appeal by both Ballinamallard and Warrenpoint into the Disciplinary Committee’s decision was ruled invalid, Warrenpoint decided to pursue arbitration.
It is expected that the clubs will know their fate by tonight as the IFA have stated that they have an agreement that Sports Resolutions UK will endeavour to communicate a decision on Thursday evening.
The IFA have stipulated that only the players eligible to participate in the 1st leg of the play off would be eligible to play in the 2nd leg.
