Johnny Cassidy will make a little piece of Fermanagh history next week, as he and his brother Patrick become the first twins to represent Fermanagh at the Super Cup NI.
Johnny is the vice-captain and will play at centre back, but he is unlikely to see too much of his brother during the matches as he hopes to be at the other end of the pitch.
“Patrick plays as a striker, which is completely opposite to me,” he said.
“I just see him as another player in the team and I don’t see him any differently, although to be honest there is a lot of chat about it in the house!”
The Premier team have been handed a very tough draw. Right to Dream were one of the main attractions of last year’s tournament, coming all the way from Ghana to win the Junior section, and they are expected to challenge for the title again this season, while Newcastle will bring some Premier League glamour to the event.
Sandwiched between those two tough ties in a derby game against Tyrone, and Johnny admits that will be their best chance of securing a victory.
“I’m looking forward to the Tyrone game the most because of the local rivalry,” he said.
“It’s always special if Fermanagh can beat Tyrone. We played them in a friendly and it finished one all. I was happy enough with how that went.
“Against the other two teams it will be tough and we might have our backs against the wall for most of the game, but hopefully we can sneak a goal through a set piece or something.”
Johnny reckons the team spirit built up within the squad over the last few months can carry them through to a successful tournament.
“Some of the lads I didn’t know before but I have got to know them well over the past few months training together and it all feels good now.
“ I’m excited to get going,” he stated.
