Captain Eoin Beacom is hoping the Fermanagh Premier Super Cup NI team can emerge from the tournament with pride restored, after the Junior team failed to secure a victory two years ago.
Eoin was part of that team in 2014 and admits he was disappointed with their results, but has vowed to put that right this time around.
“Two years ago we went up and didn’t win a game so I feel like the pressure is on us,” he admitted.
“Most of the boys that were there the last time and going back this time, and then we have another few as well who have come in. I think we have got a hard draw but hopefully we can go up there and prove people wrong and do something special. We have to go up there this time and play some good stuff.”
The centre back plays his club football with Enniskillen Town, and has been very impressed with the coaching of manager Darren Higginbotham and his back room team.
“The preparation has been brilliant,” he said. “Darren has been a brilliant manager with us and covered all the bases. He has done everything with us and I can’t complain. He’s one of the best managers I have had in the last few years along with Gary Beckett.”
Fermanagh’s tournament kicks off with a glamour tie against English giants Newcastle United, and Eoin is anxious but excited about the tie.
“There are a few nerves there,” he revealed.
“I played there two years ago and I know what to expect but I’m still a bit nervous. There is a wee bit of hype before the game which is different but you never really know how it’s going to affect you. I’ve played in grounds like that before in Gaelic although not in football, but it does pick you up a bit. I think if everyone plays to their best potential there is a chance we can get something, even from the games against the two big clubs. Newcastle and Right to Dream are two big teams, and then we have the local rivals Tyrone. Everyone wants to win that one and it’s the one I’m looking forward to the most. We played them in a friendly and I scored a goal so it wasn’t so bad, but you never know what will happen on the day. We are pretty confident!”
