Teemore 0-15 Devenish 0-13

Teemore and Devenish produced a lot of quality play despite the horrible conditions posting 28 points between them with some excellent spells produced by both sides.
The game was all square in injury time when Gary Fitzpatrick played the role of super sub to fire an excellent point from all of 45 yards to give Teemore the advantage with the ever accurate Eoin McManus converting a free a minute later to give the home side a two point win.
The win puts Teemore in a strong position to make the league semi finals as they are four points ahead of Irvinestown with two games left to play.
The Shamrocks will face off against Erne Gaels and Derrygonnelly, who currently occupy the top two spots in the table, but it all likelihood the Teemore men have done enough at this stage regardless of what happens in the coming weeks.
Shamrocks boss Tommy Clarke reflected on the season to date after the game at the weekend;
“We are very pleased to be honest. At the start of the season we wanted to make sure we avoided the bottom four and we have done that and to be in the top four at this stage we are delighted,” he explained before turning his attention to the encounter with Devenish;
“I thought it was a very good game and it really came down to the wire. It wasn’t easy to play football in those conditions but I thought both teams did well and we are happy to have got over the line.”
Devenish had the advantage of the elements in the first half but they did not make full use of them and entered the break only a point to the good on a scoreline of 0-06 to 0-05. John O’Flanagan was accurate from free kicks in the first half for Devenish with JJ O’Brien, Jason Love and Terry O’Flanagan also on target. Teemore though were to keep well in touch with McManus drilling over a couple of frees and Ruairi Maguire and John Fitzpatrick also on target to keep Devenish’s lead to a minimum at the break.
Teemore were to control much of the opening twenty minutes of the second half with Eamon Drumm putting in a goos shift at full back. Declan Fitzpatrick was a menace in attack and he notched two points while McManus continued his impressive scoring rate from he middle of the field with defender Joey Donegal also getting in on the act.
Devenish trailed by four points when Shane McAloon suffered a serious arm injury. The Devenish defender has been playing very well this season but his loss was to galvanise his team who hit four points in a row to tie things up with JJ O’Brien, John O’Flanagan and John McNulty all splitting the posts.
It wasn’t to be enough however and Teemore came back to secure the win but Devenish boss Malachy Cullen took plenty of positives in the end;
“We didn’t make use of the wind in the first half and we had a lot of wides and a lot of shots into the keeper so that wasn’t good but the boys fought back well especially after Shane’s injury, which could have taken the heart out of us.”
