Derrygonnelly 2-17 Belcoo 0-11

Belcoo suffered a sixth successive defeat on Sunday afternoon, away to Derrygonnelly.
The result means the O’Rahilly’s must now win their final game against Maguiresbridge, to ensure they stay out of the bottom two.
Finishing in the bottom two would mean they need to win both play-off games to stay up, while finishing in seventh or eighth spot would mean they need to win only one of their two play-off games.
Belcoo just about scraped together a team for this game, fielding with only one substitute, a problem that has dogged the O’Rahilly’s this season. Derrygonnelly were never troubled and by half time it was inevitable what way the game was going to go, with the Harps leading by eight points at the break.
The visitors hit the first point after some good work got the ball to Barry McGovern who fired over.
But Belcoo’s challenge fell away soon after, only managing three more frees from Paul McGrath in the first half.
Derrygonnelly on the other hand kicked 1-09.
The Jones brothers, Leigh, Conall and Ryan were all on target with points. Midway through the first half Ryan broke through for a goal to give the Harps a commanding lead.
Stephen McGullion also pointed as Derrygonnelly coasted into the lead.
In the second half it was more of the same. Further points from Neil Gallagher, Conall and Leigh Jones as well as Peter Gallagher kept the score board ticking over for the home side.
Stephen McGullion got Derrygonnelly’s second goal to rubber stamp the victory.
As was the case the previous week against Erne Gaels, Belcoo rallied towards the end and picked off points from Jonathan Feeley, Ciaran Flaherty and Ian Corrigan but it was merely consolation as Derrygonnelly collected two more points.
Belcoo Manager, Hugh Donnelly said: “It was a below par performance from us and there’s been too many of them in the last few weeks.
“We have very few to blame other than ourselves. We made basic errors again yesterday (Sunday) and it aided the result, in the first half alone we gave away 1-02.”
With the pressure now heaped on Belcoo to get a win against Maguiresbridge this weekend, he says:
“It’s in our own hands, we need a win to give us a chance. They (Maguiresbridge) are going well though, so it won’t be easy.
“It’s a massive few weeks for us, a massive game on Sunday and the following week we have Lisnaskea in the championship.
“We need to get our performance right, it’s a very simple equation and if we can perform to our best we’ll be a handful for any team,” commented Donnelly.
