Ballinamallard 3 Dundela 0

Ballinamallard booked their place in Round Three of the NI League Cup with a comfortable 3-0 win over NIFL Premier Intermediate side Dundela at Ferney Park on Tuesday night.
Ryan Mayse put the Mallards in front at the midway stage of the first half after a dominant start to the game and Jason McCartney doubled the home side’s advantage on the hour mark with a tidy finish.
The result was then put beyond doubt 11 minutes from time as Johnny Lafferty slotted home to seal the Mallards first win and first cleansheet of the season.
Mallards boss Gavin Dykes made seven changes from the side that started against Cliftonville on Saturday with Stefan McCusker coming into goal while Ryan Morris, David Elliott, Steve Feeney, Gary Armstrong, Ryan Mayse and Josh McIlwaine were all handed starting berths.
And the home side began the game on the front foot as they looked to put the visitors under pressure.
The Mallards bossed the opening exchanges with Shane McGinty pulling the strings and Ryan Mayse and Jason McCartney looking lively in the wide areas.
The first chance of the tie arrived after six minutes when McGinty’s corner from the left found Ross Taheny free in the box but his header flew over the bar.
And the chances continued to come as Dundela goalkeeper Jonathan Sergeant was forced into a double save. Again centre half Taheny was the man the ball fell to but his shot was saved by Sergeant before the ball came out to Gary Armstrong with the goalkeeper getting down to once more make the save.
The Mallards movement was causing Dundela all sorts of problems and the pressure finally told in the 22nd minutes as the home side eventually made the breakthrough with Mayse grabbing the opening goal of the tie. The attacker had his first two efforts blocked before firing home at the near post at the third attempt to make it 1-0.
After the goal though Dundela started to come more into the game with the Mallards offering much less attacking intent and James Sofley had an effort that was spilled by goalkeeper Stefan McCusker before it was cleared to safety.
And the Mallards were then relieved to see Burrows’ hooked effort from a corner come back off the crossbar as it remained 1-0 at half time.
Dundela continued to search for an equaliser at the start of the second half and a long range Matthew Ferguson had McCusker scrambling to push the ball behind for a corner.
As the half progressed though the Mallards were to go on and regain the upperhand once more. Mayse raced on to a brilliant ball from Taheny but was denied by a last ditch tackle as he was about to pull the trigger before the home side eventually doubled their lead on the hour mark.
Johnny Lafferty, who impressed after being introduced, knocked the ball down to McCartney and he swivelled and fired the ball into the top corner from 15 yards to make it 2-0.
This goal broke the Dundela resistance and Dykes’ side went on to boss matters over the final period.
Mayse saw a shot from the edge of the box saved by  Sergeant while Lafferty dragged the ball wide when well placed.
The big striker though made no mistake in the 79th minute as he made it 3-0. Mayse and Armstrong linked up on the right hand side with Mayse’s rasping shot pushed away by Sergeant but Lafferty was on hand to slot home from close range as the Ferney Park outfit secured their place in the next round of the competition.
