Fermanagh man Jordan Hylton is hoping to be involved with the Ireland Rugby League team during their World Cup Qualifiers after he received a surprise call up for the recent international against Italy.
Hylton has been impressing with the Irish Students team and when a member of the senior squad had to withdraw before the trip to Italy, Hylton was given a call up.
“I had been away so I hadn’t been able to make the trials but I got a call the day before the Italy game as someone had dropped out and I jumped at the chance,” he explained.
And the Enniskillen lad, who was earning his first senior cap, grabbed his chance with both hands as he got on the scoresheet with a try in the 60-26 win having started the game on the wing.
“It was a great experience for me and I really enjoyed it,” he said.
Indeed, Hylton obviously impressed and he is hopeful of being involved in the World Cup Qualifiers against Spain and Russia which take place in October. Before that there are friendly games against Jamaica and Malta in Bray.
“The coach said he would stay in touch with me and I’m hoping that I stay in the squad for the World Cup qualifiers,” he added.
