Tempo and Maguiresbridge meet this weekend for a place in the Intermediate final.
Also up for grabs of course is entry into next season’s senior championship with Intermediate finalists both guaranteed a place.
Two men who are vital to their respective teams cause in this clash are Tempo’s Conor Foy and Sean Corrigan of the Bridge. The two are likely to be at close quarters with Foy possibly given the task of keeping tabs on the elusive Corrigan.
Tempo needed a replay to overcome Enniskillen Gaels in the quarter final and Foy admits to being glad to get the win under their belt;
“We were relieved a little in the end obviously. But I thought we were the stronger side over the two games. The Gaels never gave up but I thought we showed a little more composure in the replay especially and we definitely really wanted the win.”
The experienced defender believes Maguiresbridge will be a daunting challenge this weekend;
“They have beaten us twice already this year and deserved both wins but I would like to think that we would be a different proposition for them this weekend. They looked sharp and well organised in their win over Derrylin so it is all to play for. I think we have improved all year and the spirit in the camp has been good, even in the league when we were not picking up points, and we know that we can hold our own against most teams in the county when we play well,” Foy stated.
For Corrigan he is candid enough about his side’s championship aspirations;
“Our goal is to win the Intermediate championship and I think the other three teams have the same goal whether or not they want to admit it or not.”
The free scoring Corrigan, who hit 1-04 in the quarter final win over Derrylin and was more than happy with he margin of victory in that game;
“As a club we would not historically have many championship wins of 8 or 9 points so overall we are pleased with how the game went and the final result and as far as the performance goes we would be happy with certain aspects but know that there is improvement there too.”
And Corrigan believes his side will have to bring that improvement to the table when they square off against Tempo;
“They are an established division one team and a lot of their players have senior championship medals so we know what we have ahead of us. We have to use the the experience and ability we have built up to deliver a performance that will get us back to the final.”
An intriguing encounter on the cards then as these two division one sides clash with the game looking likely to go right down to the wire.
