Irvinestown Wanderers 2 Tummery Athletic 2

It was stalemate at the Bawnacre on Saturday as Joey Miller’s late effort earned home side Irvinestown Wanderers a share of the spoils against Tummery Athletic.
Wanderers had taken the lead through Rory Cassidy but Tummery responded well after this and goals from Ryan Cunningham and Declan McCusker had them in the ascendancy until Millar’s 83rd minute equaliser.
Wanderers boss Rory Cassidy was pleased with the effort of his players and happy that his side are now up and running with their first point of the campaign.
“We were still light a few boys but performance wise it was a lot better,” said Cassidy.
“Obviously, we’re very pleased to get off the mark with our first point but I was more pleased with the performance. We played some nice football and the boys dug in when they had to after Tummery had taken the lead. Hopefully, we can continue this on Saturday against Rangers.”
There was little dividing the sides in the opening period of the game but it Wanderers who were to draw first blood midway through the first half.
A Gary Maguire corner landed at the feet of Cassidy and he drove it to the corner of the net to give the home side the lead.
However, with half time approaching, Athletic swooped for the equaliser through Cunningham. He carried the ball forward before slotting home from the edge of the box to leave it level at the break.
Tummery held the upperhand after the interval and a cracking dipping drive by McCusker put the Dromore outfit in front ten minutes into the second half while Cunningham went close to extending their advantage soon after.
As the half progressed though Irvinestown began to find their feet again and with 83 minutes on the clock they struck for the equaliser.
A good ball from Eamon McCarney to the back stick was met by Miller who drilled to the net to ensure that the Wanderers picked up their opening point of the season.
Wanderers will be hoping to build on this when they face an in form Enniskillen Rangers at the Bawnacre on Saturday while next up for Tummery is a home game against Beragh Swifts.
