Enniskillen Santos 3 Tummery Athletic 4

A hat-trick by Santos’ debutant Cathal Beacom could not save the Enniskillen outfit from defeat, as Tummery recorded their first win of the season with a 4-3 victory at the Lakeland Forum.
The away side were 3-1 ahead by half time and Santos fell further behind before their late Beacom inspired fightback, but Santos manager Joe Keenan admitted his team did not deserve anything from the game.
“We didn’t pay well. It was probably our worst performance of the season so far,” he said. “Tummery were the better team. I thought when we got our first goal we would have pushed on, but we got worse. They were tearing us to bits with their football and we couldn’t keep track of them all.
“In the second half it was very important who got the first goal and they got it. Had there been another five or ten minutes at the end it might have been a different story but to be honest if we had got a draw we would have stolen a point.”
Tummery went into the match looking for their first win of the season, and manager Shaun McDermott had no doubt that his team were worthy of all three points.
“We were definitely the better team and deserved to win,” he said.
“We played the better stuff and had the better chances. A lot of the goals came from mistakes but we were a bit more creative than they were, although I know they were missing a few big players. We scored four and we could have got five or six. It’s nice to get a win under our belt.”
Nicky Dunbar and Seamie Quigley were among those absent for Santos, but there was little between the sides for the first 15 minutes. However, the game swung in Tummery’s favour after 20 minutes when the home team conceded a free kick 20 yards from goal and Declan McNulty curled a free kick into the top corner.
Santos hit back when Tummery failed to clear their lines and Cathal Beacom rifled a low drive into the corner, but the goal did little to change the flow of the game with Tummery continuing to press forward.
They were gifted a second goal when a poor goal keeper’s clearance landed at the feet of Ryan Cunningham and he had the simple task of rolling the ball into an unguarded net from 25 yards.
Before half time they added a third from the penalty spot. McNulty crossed from the left and Dwayne Beacom’s challenge on McNabb was punished, with Cunningham making no mistake from 12 yards.
In the second half Tummery continued to dominate with Emmett McNabb running on to a McCullough through ball to make it 4-1.
Cunningham twice had efforts well saved as Tummery threatened to add more goals to their total, but with 15 minutes remaining Santos grabbed a lifeline when Beacom cut in from the right and fired past Christopher Snow from 20 yards.
The former Ballinamallard man then set up a nail biting finish with another goal on 88 minutes. He broke clear and rounded the keeper before pulling the ball back to Jason Keenan. His shot was blocked on the line but the rebound fell kindly for Beacom who tapped home.
Santos could not find a winner in the closing moments however and Tummery held on for the win.
