The Division One season will come to an end this Saturday night under the lights at Brewster Park as Derrygonnelly take on Teemore in what should be a closely contested final.
The Harps go into the game as favourites as they look to complete a double double by retaining the league title they won last year to go along with the back to back senior championship title that they clinched with victory over Erne Gaels recently.
However, they can expect a big test from a Teemore side who have performed very well this year on their return to the top flight.
The Shamrocks, who booked their place in the final thanks to a late James McCaffrey goal in their semi-final against Roslea, will be going in search of a first Division One title since 2003 and while manager Tommy Clarke accepts that his side face a tough challenge, he says it  is one that they are relishing.
“We know how difficult Derrygonnelly are going to be. They have been the best team in the county in the past two season but I have to say that the players are really looking forward to it. As I said we are delighted to be in the final and we intend to give it our very best now,” he said.
Derrygonnelly sealed their passage through to this Saturday night’s final with a comfortable win over Erne Gaels, a week after beating the same side in the championship final. Manager Martin Greene is aware of the dangers posed by Teemore and feeels it has the makings of a good encounter.
“It’s great to get to the final and the boys are looking forward to it. Teemore will be big test. They are a very physical team. They have a good blend there with some very experienced players mixed with some excellent young players like Cian and Eoin McManus. They beat us earlier in the league and they are a big threat and hopefully it should be a good game.”
As Greene mentions, the McManus boys, Eoin and Cian will be key players for Teemore along with the likes of Ryan Maguire and John Fitzpatrick. The Shamrocks can also call on the experience of Barry Owens and Declan Reilly to back up the youth they have in their ranks.
The Harps come into the game with good momentum and they will be keen to keep that going as they get ready for an Ulster Club clash away to the Derry champions on Sunday October 30.
Greene will look for big performances from the Jones brothers Ryan and Garvan in the middle of the park while the likes of Declan Cassidy, Garvan McGinley and Paul Ward will also be important players for the Harps as they look to make it two in a row.
