Lisnaskea 2-15
St Patrick’s 2-14 (AET)

Lisnaskea Emmetts bounced straight back to Division One following this exhilarating encounter with St Patrick’s Donagh; edging their rivals out by a single point after extra time.
Niall McElroy was the match winner for the Emmett with a point in the second half of extra time and after a dominant first half performance Lisnaskea will be pleased that they found the necessary resolve to finish the job after St Pat’s had clawed their way back to parity but the conclusion of normal time.
Lisnaskea boss Peter Clarke was delighted with his sides battling performance and with the commitment that his team showed.
The Emmetts did not get off to the best possible start to the season with players missing and a series of defeats in the opening few months of the league but Clarke was happy with how his side had turned things around;
“We had some hard times at the start of the season and we had some bad defeats including a real mauling up at St Pat’s in round two of the league but I have always said that if you keep working hard that things will turn around for you and that is what happened for us this season and we are back now where we want to be in 2017, in Division One.”
For St Pat’s the story was very different.
The form team over the course of the year they finished top of the table after 18 league games but a new format meant that this did not guarantee immediate promotion.
Having lost twice in the senior championship St Pat’s were back to league action and two narrow defeats to Kinawley and Lisnaskea has left them in Division Two for at least another season.
“I suppose there would be a bit of frustration there having finished top but we knew what the rules were at the start of the league so in that regard we knew that finishing top would mean that you would still have to go out and win another game,” explained their manager, Ogie Cadden.
St Pats were without their tailisman, Eamon Maguire, for this fixture while the Emmetts were able to call on all of their big guns.
In a slick moving forward line Daniel Kille finished the afternoon with 1-04 to his name with Mark Little chipping in with 0-03.
Kenny Kerins notched 1-01 with Niall McElroy and Ryan O’Keefe contributing 0-02 apiece with Ryan Flanagan hitting a brace as well.
Both those goals came in the first half with Lisanskea also creating a number of other chances for goal as they were the much better side in the first half.
At one stage the Emmetts were 11 points to the good with a Brian McDermott goal just before the break for St Pat’s bringing the half time deficit back to eight.
A Paul Og O’Reilly goal mid way through the second half aided the St Pat’s comeback and they also had points from Matty McGrade wit Pat Cadden also on target on regular intervals with Pat Grue striding forward from defence to hit two points for good measure.
For Lisnaskea John Woods and Mark McKenna were solid in defence with Stephen Carters also contributing well upon his arrival while Tom Clarke was in imperious form for the Emmetts around centre field.
St Pats meanwhile rejigged things in defence to get to grips with the Lisnaskea attack and Kevin Curran and Oisin Boyle both excelled at the wing half back spots.
Extra time was to see little between the teams with both sides putting everything in to getting promotion and in the end it was Lisnaskea who just about deserved to secure the win with a combination of tenacity and a bit of class in front of goal the difference.
