Josh Elliott is already looking ahead to next season after a frustrating year ended with another disappointing finish in the final race at Brands Hatch. Josh started the campaign with high hopes of defending the title he won in emphatic style last year, but he struggled to repeat his feats of 2015, with only win during the year.
“I definitely have encountered a lot of new experiences and I have to learn from them and take that into next year. I’ve been a bit disappointed that I haven’t been closer to what I wanted to achieve.”

Josh was hoping to end the season on a high note, but in difficult conditions he struggled to find a good set up for his Tyco BMW and was disappointed to qualify in fifth spot. He made a positive start to the race however and looked set to challenge the front runners before a mechanical glitch led to him missing a gear at a crucial moment. “I ran on straight on to a wet patch of the track and had a big slide which left me well back,” he said. “I had to try and regroup and get myself back into the race. I came back from 17th back to 12th but it wasn’t a great weekend and wasn’t a great end to the season. It sort of summed up my season!”
With no more races scheduled for this year his focus is already firmly on 2017, and he is working hard to secure a competitive bike for next year. He is keen to avoid another 12 months of disappointment, and although a ride in the Superbike championship remains his number one target, he is keen to make sure he gets a bike that will allow him to showcase his talents.
“A lot of the riders move up to the Superbike class on average machinery and with teams that don’t have the right budget and it does more harm than good,” he said. “I just want to get a competitive drive, whether that be in Superbike or Superstock 1000, or the European Superstock Championship. I just want to have a good package around me so I can show what I can really do. This year I thought I was limited in what I could do and that showed in the results.”
Discussions have already taken place with several teams, and Josh remains hopeful he can secure a good deal. “We have been chatting to a few teams. Kawasaki are pretty keen on having me in the Superstock to be their official rider but we will have to wait and see. I am obviously looking for a superbike ride. I would like to move up to Superbike and get learning early and get some experience, see what it is about and try to learn as much as possible. I just want to be in a competitive package with a good team around me. We are definitely confident that there is opportunities there and we will keep working hard over the next few weeks to try to secure something.”
