Enniskillen Rangers 3 Magheraveely 1

Enniskillen Rangers turned in an excellent first half performance to see off a battling Magheraveely at the Ball Range on Saturday, a win that keeps Michael Kerr’s side firmly in the mix at the top end of the table.
Indeed, it was player-manager Kerr that headed them into a fourth minute lead and when the mercurial Chris Currie fired the Rangers 2-0 up after 15 minutes, they were well on their way to all three points.
Rangers were guilty of missing a couple of chances but Darren Higginbotham slotted home from close range to make it 3-0 before Gary Kettyles pulled one back for the visitors and they certainly battled to the final whistle but Rangers were deserving winners in the end.
“It was good to get the three points and it moves us up one more place in the table,” said ‘Gers boss Kerr. “I thought it was a good performance but in saying that there is still a lot for us to work on. We have Strule this week and if we can play like we did last week then I would hope that we will get the points.”
Magheraveely manager Richie Farrell was impressed with Saturday’s opponents.
“Rangers fully deserved the win and I felt that they are the best footballing side that we have played this season. They were very impressive,” he said.
Rangers went into Saturday’s game in good form and they hit the ground running with Kerr’s bullet header from an Adam Wallace cross giving the home side the lead.
Indeed, they quickly made it two as they excellent Currie linked up with David Crozier before cutting inside the left back and thumping a cracking effort to the net.
It was all Rangers as they continued to push forward and Currie was close to a second, shaving the post with a good shot, while Ciaran Smith and Adam Wallace also had chances.
Stuart Rainey then hit the post at the start of the second half and on the hour mark they finally bagged a third as a bit of Currie magic on the right saw him tee up Higginbotham for a tap in.
The home side became sloppy after this and Magheraveely pulled a goal back when Kettyles robbed Neil Coulter before crashing a fine 20 yard strike to the net.
With ten minutes to go, Coulter made a fine goalline clearance to deny Dean McWilliams but other than this it was a comfortable afternoon for Kerr’s side as they maintained their push at the top end of the table.
