Enniskillen Rangers 16 18th Newtownabbey OB 1

Both these teams took five minutes to turn around at the Ball Range on Saturday at half time as the persistent fog that threatened to ruin the day, slowly descended upon the pitch.
Rangers were keen to get the game completed, 7-0 up at the break the only danger to them winning was the game not finishing and a replay the following week. Newtownabbey, it seems, were also keen to get the game finished and with the score as it was, a return to Enniskillen to be on the wrong end of another heavy defeat was equally unpalatable.
Thanks to all involved then, the match, or rather the game was completed with the emphatic final score line of 16-1 in favour of Enniskillen Rangers telling the story of two teams of very different standard.
In fairness to Newtownabbey, they are a Reserve side and were shorn of eight regulars but they were shown little mercy by an Enniskillen Rangers side that remains unbeaten with competition for starting places highly competitive.
Manager Michael Kerr, though, was reading little into this result.
“It is good to be in the hat for the draw and like everybody else at this stage we would prefer a home draw,” he revealed. “I suppose it’s been a while since we have gotten this far and it was a good chance for me to rotate the squad and get boys a game. Some of the finishing was excellent but there was little or no pressure on the ball. However, all you can do is beat the opposition that is in front of you and that is what the boys did.”
This encounter was over by all accounts after 20 minutes as Rangers raced into a 5-0 lead. Mark Cutler opened the scoring as he raced on to an excellent Ciaran Smith through ball and side footed superbly into the top corner. Cutler made it 2-0 soon after as William Burleigh’s close range effort was denied before Andy Johnston superbly swept home a fine cross from Burleigh for 3-0.
Matty Chambers fired home via a deflection for 4-0 and Cutler completed his hat-trick soon after. Burleigh and Cutler with his fourth of the game made it 7-0 at the break.
The restart was more of the same, David Crozier and Michael Simpson waltzing through non existent defending to each score before a direct free kick from Adam Wallace made it ten.
A Joe Doogan penalty, Neil Coulter with his first touch and two more from Johnston to complete his hat-trick made it 14-0.
Burleigh and man of the match Cutler completed the rout before Simon Willis grabbed a consolation for the visitors with the last kick of the game.
Things can only get tougher from here on in but Rangers are also definitely on the up.
