Enniskillen Santos 3 Strathroy Harps 6

Enniskillen Santos manager Joe Keenan said he was pleased with the second half performance despite his side’s 6-3 defeat to league leaders Strathroy Harps at the Lakeland Forum on Saturday.
Santos had not done much wrong in the first half but still found themselves four goals down at the break but they responded well at the start of the second half with two goals of the own to bring them back into contention.
However, with the wind in their sails, Santos were hit by a goal against the run of play by Strathroy and although they pressed hard after this, the Harps were always the more likely winners as they finished up 6-3 victors.
“It was a strange game,” said Keenan. “I thought we matched them for the majority of the first half but they had four chances and they took them all. In fairness to the boys though they really played well in the second half. I thought our second half performance had both good quality and good fight which is something has been missing lately,” he added.
Strathroy travelled to Enniskillen without a number of first team players and the performance delighted manager Seamus Fanthorpe.
“We had 11 players missing so I would have had concerns going into the game but it showed that we have strength in depth in the squad which we maybe didn’t have last season,” said Fanthorpe.
Although there was little between the side, Harps showed a greater attacking intent in the first half and they took the lead when Aidy McCffrey converted from the spot after he was taken down by Nicky Dunbar.
And a clinical Harps were to bag a further three goals before half time as O’Donnell struck twice and Tommy Murphy also got on the scoresheet to put Strathroy into a 4-0 lead.
Santos did have their chances in the first half but Quigley’s chip was fingertipped over by the keeper and hit the post on the stroke of half time.
The home outfit though set about their task in a positive manner in the second period and two quick goals soon had them back in the game.
Seamus Quigley was upended in the box and Christopher Keenan stepped up to fire home from the spot for 4-1 before Quigley arrowed a fine effort to the bottom corner.
Against the run of play, Strathroy hit a fifth despite Santos protesting that goalscorer Aidy McCaffrey was offside.
Again Santos pushed and Beacom clipped the post before Duwayne Beacom headed in a third for the home side.
However, Strathroy wrapped things up late on as O’Donnell rounded Hannon to complete his hat-trick and send Strathroy four points clear.
