Enniskillen Rangers 1 Irvinestown Wanderers 1

For the second time this season, Enniskillen Rangers and Irvinestown Wanderers drew 1-1 in the Fermanagh and Western League and for the second time, Rangers led 1-0 before, for the second time, Stephen Sheridan levelled the game for a share of the spoils.
And, really, neither team could complain about the share of the spoils, Rangers enjoying lots of possession and creating good opportunities to add to Michael Kerr’s opener but they could not.
Irvinestown overcame a lacklustre opening half hour to enjoy a good spell before the break and they scored with their only shot on target in the first half when Sheridan pounced on a breaking ball in the box.
The second half was more of the same, Rangers pushing but lacking that final killer instinct while Wanderers created the best chance of the half when Chris O’Brien flashed a shot just wide of the post.
“From my point of view, we should have won and missed chances,” rued Rangers boss Michael Kerr. He added: “It has been the story of our season a little, not taking our chances when on top. In fairness, Irvinestown played well, had a strong team out but had we got to 2-0 up I think we would have seen the game out. Even at 1-1 we had chances but we know what the issues are and we are working hard at training to rectify it. In fairness to the boys they never gave up and we were creating chances right up until the end.”
His opposite number Rory Cassidy believed; “Given how poorly we started, I suppose I am happy with the draw but we did have the best chance in the second half. Overall, we have played the top four recently and given a good account of ourselves and we want to push on in the New Year and maybe get a run in the cup. Saturday was the first time this season I have been able to select the same 11 two weeks running which is a big difference.”
The home side commenced well and after a couple of penalty shouts were soon in the lead when the ball was played forward to the recently married William Burleigh and he chested the ball into the path of player manager Kerr who fired low past Francis Ward for 1-0 with Wanderers claiming offside.
Kerr almost doubled the advantage minutes later as he controlled the ball and swivelled to volley just wide as the ball clipped the outside of the post. Mark Cutler then headed just wide from a free kick wide on the right as Rangers controlled the opening quarter of the game.
Wanderers then started to get into the game as they started to link up much better with their forward line and they were level with their first shot on goal. Joey Miller did well down the right and his cross into the box was missed  by O’Brien but fell to Sheridan who slotted home low into the bottom corner with 10 minutes to half time.
Rangers still had two good chances to go in ahead at the break but Burleigh fired over the bar from close range as he got onto the end of a Cutler cross and then Cutler was through on goal but could not get any power on his shot as Conor McAleer got in a challenge.
Both sides had chances in the second half, O’Brien rounded Carleton in the Rangers goal but could only hit the side-netting and he had an even better chance soon after when Ronan Ormsby turned the ball over and played him in but his shot flew just wide of the post.
Rangers then finished the stronger.
David Crozier broke into the box but Ward saved at his feet and he tried to go around the keeper and Cutler his the side netting when played in by Burleigh. The final chance fell to James Turley as he got on the end of a Neil Coulter cross only to head wide of the post as the game finished 1-1.
