Belcoo’s Brendan Dolan produced some quality darts as he booked his place in the next round of the William Hill World Darts Championship with a 3-0 victory over Dutchman Christian Kist at the Alexandra Palace on Tuesday night.
Dolan averaged over 95 and took out a 102 finish in an assured display to set up a meeting against the winner of Thursday night’s encounter between number ten seed Jelle Klaasen (10) and Jeffrey de Graaf.
“I was happy with that - especially my finishing,” said Dolan, who had a double success rate of 56 per cent.
“I’ve struggled for 18 months but my form is coming back. I’ve got more determination, confidence and drive than ever before and I’m so pleased to get through.
“I’ve never really have had a good run here but on that World Championship stage, anything is possible.”
The Fermanagh man was quickly out of the blocks, landing double ten to break straight away before hitting double 16 to double his lead. And he wrapped up the first set by taking out 70 to give him the perfect start.
Kist though responded to this in the second set, taking it 3-0 with a brilliant 105 finish to level the match at one set apiece.
However, Dolan soon regained control as he took out 78 and 102 in the third set to edge back ahead before wrapping things up in the fourth set with finishes of 54 and 61 to secure a 3-1 victory.
