Denzil McDaniel will stay on as Junior manager of the Fermanagh Super Cup NI squad for a second year.

McDaniel led the squad to a successful run at the tournament last summer, securing a brilliant comeback win over Swindon Town and beating Dundalk Schoolboys on their way to finishing 12th overall in the Junior section.

And after taking everything into consideration McDaniel has taken up the offer to remain in the post for the 2017 tournament. He admits that it was a difficult decision given the huge levels of commitment required but having enjoyed the experience last year he has opted to stay on.

“After much thought, I have decided to accept the post of Super cup manager of the Fermanagh junior squad for 2017.

“I have been considering this for some weeks now, so it wasn’t an easy decision. It is a major commitment and last year brought it’s hassles and negatives.

“But there were also many positives and generally it went well; so the committee asked me to continue for another year to give some stability and continuity.

“Especially so, in this the 25th anniversary of the organisation which began as the Milk Cup and is now firmly established as the Super Cup,” he said.

Having taken the decision, McDaniel is now looking forward to getting down to work and has already confirmed his backroom team.

“Having made the decision, I am being very positive about it, along with the other coaches.

“Jackie Palmer, who I respect greatly and has worked closely with me over the last six years of youth coaching, has agreed to come on board again, as has Simon Friel who was on the coaching staff last year.

“The fourth member of the team this year is Richard McBride, another man of integrity that I know well.

“We have a lot of work ahead of us, assessing all 2002 and 2003 players available for Fermanagh and organising them and preparing a squad for the tournament at the end of July,” said McDaniel.
