Fermanagh 2-13 St. Mary's 0-13 Fermanagh picked up their first points in the McKenna Cup with a six point victory over St. Mary's at Brewster Park today.

Pete McGrath's side held a two point lead at the break thanks to an early goal from captain Eoin Donnelly.

However, it took a goal from the returning Daryl Keenan midway through the second half to finally put the game to bed as Fermanagh eventually ran out 2-13 to 0-13 winners.

Fermanagh came flying out of the blocks and inside the opening minute they were awarded a penalty when Aidan Breen was fouled as he looked to get a shot in on goal.

However, St. Mary's goalkeeper Mark Reid pulled off a fine save from Danny Teague's penalty, pushing his strike around the post for a 45.

Fermanagh though quickly got up and running as Aidan Brenn landed a point before captain Eoin Donnelly found the back of the net in the sixth minute. He exchanged passes with Eoin McManus and although the ball spilled to the ground, Donnelly slotted home soccer style.

When Teague and Barry Mulrone then tagging on points, Fermanagh found themselves six clear with only eight minutes gone.

St. Mary's though soon found their feet and the students were to rattle over the next five points to drag them right back into contention.

Darragh Kavanagh, Pearse Og McCrickard, Niall Toner, Stephen McConville and Conor Meyler all tagged on points to level up proceedings 1-3 to 0-6.

Aidan Breen knocked over Fermanagh's first point in 16 minutes and when Eoin McManus followed up with a score it put the Ernemen two in front.

The sides then shared the final four points of the half with Ciaran Corrigan and Tommy McCaffrey on target for Fermanagh as they went in at the break with a 1-7 to 0-8 lead.

McCaffrey and McManus added frees in the second half for Fermanagh and substitute Paul McCusker also landed a point as they moved into a five point lead but St. Mary's again responded with two fine long range frees from Oisin O'Neill and a point from play from Niall Toner reduced the deficit back to two.

The decisive score of the game though arrived in the 51st minute as Keenan, who had been introduced at half time, strode through and fired at goal and although Reid got his hand to the Tempoman's shot he could not keep it out.

Fermanagh lost captain Eoin Donnelly to a second yellow card as things became heated but with Tomas Corrigan and McCusker lofting over scores it moved the home side into a seven point lead.

St. Mary's had two further points from Kavanagh frees which sandwiched a Mickey Jones point for Fermanagh and McGrath's men finished the game with 13 men when Danny Teague was black carded having already been booked.

In the end though Fermanagh were six point winners and now face Antrim on Wednesday night at Brewster Park.
