It was another good day in the pool for the Enniskillen Lakelanders at the first Development Gala of the Year at the Omagh Leisure Centre with volunteer coach Fionna Martin and daughter Caitlin setting the swimmers up for their events.

There was a plethora of top swims producing Personal Bests and medals as these youngsters start out on the Swim Ulster development ladder.

In the 100m Individual Medley, nine-year-old Abigail Boyd won the first silver medal of the day and achieved a brilliant new PB dropping 3.73 seconds.

Debutant Anna Cairns placed ninth as well as Josie Roma and Molly Rice who produced strong swims while fantastic swims by Annabel Morrison and Anna McDade saw the girls gain PBs. Both girls only narrowly missed out on Qualifying times, coming seventh and ninth respectively.

A strong swim in the boys’ event saw 10-year-old Patrick Williams take ninth place followed by his sister 12-year-old Sophia Williams, who took part in the gruelling 200m Individual Medley, dropping a massive 30 seconds off her PB in a time of 3.30.54 seconds.

The 50m freestyle was the next event and Josie Roma, Molly Rice and Anna Cairns all progressed to achieve terrific new PBs. Another fantastic swim by Abigail Boyd saw her improve her PB by 1.86 seconds, coming fifth overall. 10-year-old Anna McDade swam brilliantly achieving a new PB of 38.02 - only one second off a qualifying time.

There was a big improvement for Annabel Morrison in this event dropping 1.62 seconds from her PB and placing her ninth overall. Isobel Lannon, also 10 years, took the gold medal in this event but more importantly she achieved a qualifying time bringing her closer to the Swim Ulster Qualifying galas. Her brother Jamie Lannon, nine, swam an impressive PB of 47.76 seconds.

Another super swim saw Patrick Williams place in the top 10. Having only started swimming competitively this year Frank Buchanan, 10, achieved a fantastic new time of 43.17s. Another newcomer Peter McGowan had great swim also giving him a new PB.

The afternoon session was dominated by the Man brothers.

12-year-old Jason won a silver medal in his 100m freestyle and a bronze medal in the 50m butterfly event and went on to achieve fourth position in the 100m breaststroke, just missing out on another medal. His older brother 14-year-old, Josh took the silver medals in both the 100m breastroke and the 50m butterfly, dropping a substantial 15.84 seconds from his previous time. Luke Aiken entered the 100m breaststroke having only swam this length once before; he was delighted to achieve a PB of 2.15sec.

10-year-old Isobel Lannon continued her good form into the afternoon achieving a silver medal in the 50m butterfly and a new PB of 44.78 seconds. She was really pleased to see all the hard work paying off. 11-year-old Ciosa McConnell swam in her favourite event the 100m breaststroke. Ciosa produced a great swim with a two second PB, only narrowly missing out on a qualifying time by 0.5 seconds and finishing in the top ten.

Molly Johnston, also 11, is new to these events and had a great swim in the competitive 100m breaststroke achieving a time of 1 min 52 secs and coming 13th overall. 12-year-old Eimear Magee took part in her favourite 50m butterfly event, finishing second and knocking two seconds from her previous PB with a time of 41.46 secs.

She also secured a PB in the 100m Breaststroke of 1 min 45 secs coming in seventh place overall.

Lauren Kearney competed in the 13 year old age group and a strong swim saw her drop 1.45secs from her PB coming 10th overall.

Carla Ryan, 13, years took part in two events dropping an excellent 7.30 seconds in her 50m butterfly and earning another great PB in the 100m breaststroke.
