Irvinestown Wanderers 5 Enniskillen Santos 0 Irvinestown Wanderers eased their way into the next round of the Mulhern Cup with a comfortable win over nine man Enniskillen Santos in this all Division One clash at the Bawnacre on Saturday.

Goals from Stephen Sheridan and Liam Murphy had Wanderers two goals to the good at half time and Ronan Ormby added a third midway through the second half.

Santos then had both Nicky Dunbar and Niall Cassidy red carded by the referee before the home side wrapped things up through an own goal and a second for Sheridan.

“I was very pleased with the performance,” said Irvinestown manager Rory Cassidy. Santos came here and beat us 4-0 in the league and we expected a tough game. I think the second goal was a real killer for them as their heads went down a bit after that but in fairness to the boys, I felt that they played some really good football and we’re delighted to be in the next round.”

It was the visitors though who had the first real chance of the game after only five minutes and if they had converted that then it may have been a different story.

Johnny Reid broke down the right and cut inside before firing a shot that looked bound for the corner but Wanderers goalkeeper Francie Ward got down to make a terrific save to keep it out.

Following this though Irvinestown started to get on top and with 13 minutes played they opened the scoring through Sheridan who showed good footwork in the box before producing a cracking finish past Peter Phair for 1-0.

The home side were to then double their advantage in the 25th minute. Liam Murphy ghosted past a couple of Santos challenges in the area and although he was eventually tackled, the ball spilled back into his path and he rifled it home to leave it 2-0 at the interval.

It was three midway through the half with Ormsby getting on the scoresheet on this occasion. Sheridan was fouled 25 yards from goal and Ormsby stepped up to fire the free kick beyond Phair to the corner to make it 3-0.

Things went from bad to worse for Santos with 13 minutes to go as they had both Dunbar and Cassidy red carded after they disputed a decision by the referee and Irvinestown followed up with their fourth when a Sean O’Reilly ball was turned into his own net by a visiting defender.

Sheridan then concluded the scoring when he slotted home to leave it 5-0 at the finish.
