Irvinestown 1-14 Roslea 4-07 Roslea picked up their second win of the season hitting four goals in this enjoyable encounter. Irvinestown, who plundered their major score from the penalty spot as time ran out have now lost two in a row and face an away trip to Devenish tomorrow (Friday) night.

Roslea will meanwhile welcome Erne Gaels as they hope to make it three wins from three after a slow start to the season.

“The goals made the difference and it was good to get the win.

“But like I said at the start we won’t get too carried away with either wins or losses at this stage of the year,” Roslea boss, Brian Gormley reflected after the game before adding; “The wee two week break will hopefully sort a few men out who have been injured and we will pull things together more now as the season goes on and more men get back out there.”

The Shamrocks worked their fist goal inside the first six minutes of the game to put them four points to the good with Cathal Lynam getting on to a flowing move to finish well. They created a few more goal chances in that first half and entered the break two points to the good having hit six of their total seven points in the first half. Brendan Sherlock, Quigley, Ruairi McGuinness and two points from Niall Cosgrove all kept the scoreboard ticking over.

Irvinestown played some good football in that first half themselves and they had points from Gary Maguire and James Duffy who were both impressive throughout with Caolan Ward also getting in on the scoring act.

After the break Roslea landed two goals in a relatively short space of time to take a commanding lead. First up was another well worked effort with Dermot Reilly providing the finishing touch. And the second came from the more direct route of a long ball into the square and Sean Quigley directed the ball to the back of the Irvinestown net for the third time.

James McMahon and Conor Quigley formed a mobile midfield for Roslea and while Ronan Ormsby was a stern resistance for the losers it was to be the four green flags that would prove the difference between the sides.

Two more goals were left in the game and the first came to the winners when a Peter Lynch long ball evaded backs and forwards to leave the umpire reaching for the green flag. Irvinestown kept fighting to the end however and they put just two points in it when Maguire converted a penalty in the dying minutes. They couldn’t find that equalising goal however and it was Roslea who deservedly took the two points on offer.
