Ederney 1-15 Teemore 2-12 Barry Owens scored a late 2-01 as Teemore recovered from an eight point half time deficit to secure a share of the spoils away to Ederney on Friday night.

Ederney looked to be on their way to the points as they went in with a 1-10 to 0-05 advantage at the interval and they still looked relatively comfortable as the game moved into the final quarter.

However, the switch of Owens from midfield to full forward reaped reward for Tommy Clarke’s Shamrocks with the two time All Star punching to the net twice before firing over the levelling point as the sides had to settle for a point apiece.

Ederney manager Mickey Cassidy felt his side should have saw the game out but acknowledged that Teemore are not the type of side who easily give up the chase in a game.

“It was disappointing not to come away with the two points as we had the winning of the game but couldn’t see it through. In fairness to Teemore it was typical of them, they never know when to throw in the towel and we know that they are dangerous when they go route one into Barry Owens. We didn’t help ourselves in the second half when we seemed to drop our intensity but at least we took a point out of the game,” he commented.

Ederney enjoyed much the better of the exchanges in the first half and by the interval they appeared to be in complete control of the encounter.

The home side, who had the wind at their backs in the first half, were on top in the middle third of the pitch and they were able to pick off a steady stream of scores to pull clear of Teemore.

Conor Magee, Darren McCusker, Enda Ferris, Aaron Dennison, Finbarr Gillen and Paul McCusker all registered points for Teemore in the first half while the major score of the period arrived from Paul McCusker who slotted the ball to the net midway through the half to help Ederney into a 1-10 to 0-05 lead.

The Teemore scores in the first half came from Niall Clarke, who converted a couple of difficult frees into the breeze while John Fitzpatrick was also among the points for the visitors.

Teemore had the advantage of the breeze in the second half and it was a closer affair although with the sides trading scores it was Ederney who maintained the upperhand.

Mark McCauley, Finbarr Gillen and Paul McCusker all tagged on points for the St.. Joseph’s outfit while Clarke landed points for Teemore during this spell.

However, Teemore were to finish the game the stronger of the sides with Owens making his impact on the contest.

His first goal came from a a high ball in that he flicked to the net and this brought Teemore right back into the game. And Owens bagged his second goal, pouncing after Ederney goalkeeper Chris Snow had saved from Ruairi Maguire with the ball rebounding up into Owens path and he fisted to the net as Teemore managed to close the gap back to two points.

Ederney did have a chance for a second goal of their own but Brian Morris’ effort hit the base of the post and the game was to finish in a stalemate as John Fitzpatrick cut the gap back to a single point before Owens fired over the leveller to leave it 2-12 to 1-15 at the conclusion.
