Derrygonnelly 4-15 Lisnaskea 1-13 Derrygonnelly Harps made it seven wins out of eight in SFL Division One as they comfortably saw off the challenge of Lisnakea Emmetts on Saturday evening.

Despite being shorn a string of what would be considered key players, the home side were to prove too strong for Lisnaskea and the performance of the young players who came into the side pleased Harps boss Martin Greene.

“I thought the young players who came in did very well,” said Greene. “We had a couple of minors who slotted in and it is important to see them pushing on and it is good to see players coming in and doing a job. In saying that we know that Lisnaskea were also missing a players for the game.”

In what was to be a high scoring affair, Greene felt that there was sharp shooters on both sides who stood out.

“It was a good game and I thought that Paul Ward for ourselves and Daniel Kille for Lisnaskea picked off some great scores in the game,” he added.

Indeed, Ward was to make a sizeable contribution of 3-03 for the home side over the course of the hour with the Emmetts struggling to contain the experienced attacker.

It was Derrygonnelly who enjoyed the better of things in the first half and they took a grip on matters in the build up to half time as they bagged two quick fire goals to push into a nine point lead at the interval, 2-07 to 0-04.

Both goals were assisted by Shane McGullion with Ward and Peter Gallagher providing the finishing touches to tuck the ball into the net.

Garry McKenna notched three points from frees for Derrygonnelly in the first half while their other scores came from two Paul Ward frees and points from play from Stephen McGullion and Colm Jones.

The Lisnaskea points in the first half arrived courtesy of Kille (2), Niall McElroy and Kenny Kearns.

The Harps were to continue to control things in the second half where they were to add a further two goals, both registered by Ward.

Lee Jones, Odhran McBrien and Stephen McGullion combined to set Ward scampering in from the right and he made no mistake in finding the back of the net while he then completed his hat-trick when he slotted home after getting on the end of a Stephen Jones pass.

Derrygonnelly also chipped away at points at steady intervals throughout the half with midfielder Garvan McGinley rattling off a trio of points while McKenna was again among the points along with McBrien.

Lisnaskea did keep battling throughout the second half and they had a goal through Niall McElroy while Kille contributed the bulk of the Emmett points during the second half with Sean Keenan also tagging on a point.

In the end though Derrygonnelly were deserving winners as they continue to set the pace at the top of the table.

Next up for the Harps is a home game against Belcoo on Friday night while Lisnaskea face an important game away to Kinawley .
