After navigating a safe path through the group matches Maguiresbridge A and the Model Primary School A faced off in a repeat of last year’s Fermanagh Primary Schools’ Kwik Cricket final.

Maguiresbridge came out on top on that occasion, lifting the Cadden Cup comfortably, however this year was to a different story.

Maguiresbridge posted a competitive 247 batting first and at one stage it seemed victory was slipping away from the Model but with some calm heads and smart batting the Model got themselves into prime position to take the game into the last over.

Then disaster struck on the second ball of the last over as Maguiresbridge snatched a wicket with a brilliant bit of bowling which put the Model behind again.

However, despite huge amounts of pressure and some excellent fielding and bowling the Model finished the game strongly to clinch a narrow victory.

The Model finished up on 248, a mere one run more than Maguiresbridge, clinching the match.

Coaches present all agreed that it was one of the closest finals they had seen in a long time and they also agreed that the standard of cricket on show was exceptional.

During the competition, three teams posted scores of over 280 in the group matches, and there was a double wicket maiden, a first for a Fermanagh finals tournament.

There was stand out performances from the Moat Primary School as they reached the quarter finals and Queen Elizabeth the 2nd who narrowly missed out on the final by 12 runs.

A big thank you to all schools who attended and the sponsor, the Enniskillen Hotel (David Cadden) along with Cricket Ireland development officer (Brian Allen) who paid us a visit and ensured we had the facilities to make the day possible.

For many the cricket isn’t over just yet as an Enniskillen select from The Model and Maguiresbridge will travel to the N.I Finals next week in Stormont in which they take on the best teams in the country.
