The 2017 Swim Ireland Irish Age Groups Championships & Summer Open takes place next week in the National Aquatic Centre.

The appointment of Jun Rudd as National Performance Director saw changes to the competition for the first time in a number of years. While the event remains at the 10 lane 50m pool with age groups based on year of birth, the order of events has changed along with the introduction of some new events and the removal of others.

All of the Irish Age Groups swimmers are targeting this event. This is why they put the long hours into training all year.

The Enniskillen Lakelanders ASC were, for the third year in a row, supported by Cavanagh Kelly in their preparation for the Division 1 & 2 meets by providing kit for the 12 swimmers from the club. Niamh O’Kane and Jake Cadden have already competed in Limerick while the other 10 were gearing up for next week’s competition in Dublin.

In the eldest categories Sorcha Lavelle, Rachel Evans, Caitlin Love and Jack Maravelakis are competing in the early morning heats while Ellie McCartney, Ben Lynch, Oisin McManus, Lewis McCartney, Kealan McShea and Connor McKenzie are competing in the late morning session.

Each of the competitors have rest time between their heats and finals – if they finish in the Top 10 of the event.

The club has also entered a couple of team relays over the five-day championships, enabling them to compete against the best Ireland has to offer.

Best of luck to all our competitors and let’s hope they bring home some medals.
