There was success for Enniskillen Boat Club members at the Home International Rowing Regatta at the weekend.

Just a week after winning the gold medal in the Irish Rowing Championship Junior Girls 4- in emphatic style, Mia Jayne Elliott, Zoe McCutcheon, Caitlynn Fee and Miriam Kelly defeated the best in the United Kingdom as they secured Ireland’s only win in the Junior section at the Home International Regatta.

Held in Strathclyde in Scotland, there was international representation in the Junior Men’s section also, as Odhran Donaghy rowed in the Junior 4+ while Rory Farragher coxed the Mens’ Junior 4+ and 8+.

The girls four powered their way to a superb but narrow win over Engalnd with Scotland in third and Wales in fourth. They did, however, have to survive an objection from the English after the boats came close together but the deserved win stood.

The four Enniskillen Royal Boat Club girls then rowed in the eight, finishing second again to England.

The win in the four was the only one by an Irish crew in the Junior Women’s or Men’s sections at the event but was not enough to stop England taking the overall title by eight points with Ireland second, Scotland third and Wales fourth.

Odhran Donaghy was part of the Irish Men’s Junior 4+ that came second to England in their race with Wales in third and Scotland fourth.

Rory Farragher coxed that four and then the Irish eight to second place also with a dominant England again the winners and this was the story of the overall competition, as England took the Men’s title by eight points from Ireland with Scotland third and Wales in fourth.

There will be further international recognition for the high achieving Boat Club this weekend as Nathan Timoney, Ross Corrigan and Aaron Johnston compete for Ireland at the Coupe de la Jeunesse in Belgium.
