Erne Gaels 1-09 Lisnaskea 2-06

In a game that was played in blustery conditions, Erne Gaels and Lisnaskea had to be content with a share of the spoils. It was the first points of the season for both teams with the strong breeze in favour of the visitors in the first half.
The Emmetts went in at the break three points to the good and plundered both their goals in the first half. Erne Gaels were to own much of the ball in the second half but were guilty of a number of poor misses, and this coupled with stout defending from the Emmetts visitors saw the game end all square.
After the game Erne Gaels manager Seamus Kelm was honest in his appraisal of the fare on show;
“I think it was a dour enough game to be fair and the wind did not make things easy. It was very windy out there,” he said before adding,
“I think on reflection we will see this as one point dropped. We missed chances in the second half and with the amount of possession that we had I feel we could have won the game.”
For Lisnaskea manager, Kevin O’Rourke, it was a welcome point for his side but he did feel that the win was within his side’s grasp
“Before the game, we would have taken the point, but having got ourselves into a good position at half-time and then defending so well in the second half it was a bit disappointing not to have been able to hold on for the win.”
Lisnaskea started the better in this encounter with the help of the strong breeze at their backs and by the twenty-minute mark, they had two goals on the board.
Ryan Moran raised the green flag for Lisnaskea with the first score of the game to give his side the perfect start to the game. The sides traded points over the next 15 minutes before the visitors grabbed their second major of the day. Hayden Lynch was pulled down in the large square and the talented attacker dusted himself down to convert the spot kick to give his side a six-point lead.
The Belleek men came right back however and immediately halved the deficit with a goal of their own with Gareth Deery finishing well.
At the interval, Lisnaskea held a 2-03 to 1-03 advantage and they got a great start tot he second half with the evergreen Mark Little popping up for his second point of the game to stretch his side’s lead to four points.
From that point however the game was to be dominated by Erne Gaels who outscored their opponents 0-06 to 0-02 to secure a share of the spoils. Ultan Kelm was a driving force for the home side and he was to stride forward and score two points from his centre half back spot. Others to hit the scoring trail over the hour for Erne Gaels included Gregory McGloin who had a solid hour at midfield and Tommy McCaffrey who was accurate from free kicks.
Ben McCann caught the eye for the home team in defence, along with Kelm at centre back with Dara Keown also impressive at fullback.
For the Emmetts Mark McKenna was once again the lynchpin of their defence with Tom Clarke putting in a towering performance in the middle of the field while Little was the best operator in attack.
