Lisnaskea Emmetts 3-08 Roslea Shamrocks 2-09

Roslea had started the year well with two wins a draw from their three games and were expected to pick up the two points on offer in this encounter.
But Lisnaskea, who were missing a host of regular starters, produced their best performance to date and two late goals from Hayden Lynch followed by a brace of Adam McKenna frees gave them the win.
After the game Emmetts manager, Kevin O’Rourke, was understandably delighted with how his team had played: “It is brilliant to get our first win and it was a great performance from the players. It was a real team effort and to come back after falling behind early was really pleasing. We have been playing well but have not been getting the results so hopefully, this win will give us the confidence to kick on from here.”
Roslea had held the upper-hand in the early exchanges and jumped into an eight-point lead with five minutes left in the first half. A goal and a point from the home side brought them back into the game just before the break. Roslea moved further ahead at the start of the second half but Lisnaskea remained steadfast in their belief and in the final ten minutes they worked their way in for two goals.
With all the momentum in their favour they won and converted two late frees to secure the win. For Roslea man, Peter McGinnity, there was a hint of shock at how the game had transpired: “I suppose we are still trying to work out how it went away from us. We were in control in the first half and we lost James McMahon to injury before the break. Lisnaskea got a goal and a point and that really helped them going into half-time,” he added. “We did start the second half well but when they got the goals they had the momentum and we found it difficult to wrestle it away from them and that can sometimes happen. But we will go again from here.”
Seamus Quigley bagged a first-half penalty for the visitors and he had a hand in his side’s second goal. A stinging shot was saved well but from the resultant goalmouth scramble, Ciaran Cassidy managed to force the ball home.
Points from Kevin Cosgrove and Quigley further stretched their lead but Lisnaskea had their own points from Adam McKenna, who was in accurate form all day, and Ryan Moran. And it was Moran who raised the green flag before half-time when he managed to scoop the ball over the keeper’s head when tight to the end line.
Roslea were ahead 2-06 to 1-04 at the break and started the second half well with Quigley accurate from placed balls and Niall Cosgrove also contributing. But Lisnaskea kept working hard and McKenna kept chipping away with frees. And in the final ten minutes, two flowing team moves ended with the ball in Lynch’s hand and the talented corner forward made no mistake in dispatching to the net. The second free flag tied up matters and the Emmetts were able to secure possession to win two late frees that McKenna duly converted.
For the losers, James McMahon was having a huge influence on the game before his injury while Kevin Cosgrove and Quigley also put in good performances. For Lisnaskea John Woods and Mark Smith were impressive in what was a decent all-round defensive performance while John Clarke worked hard around the middle with McKenna and Lynch ever dangerous in attack.
