Kinawley girls arrived back in Fermanagh from the All Ireland Feile na nOg with the division four shield trophy in tow.
A tremendous few days was capped with a brilliant performance in the final where they defeated Westmanstown of Dublin on a scoreline of 3-06 to 3-05. The win was made all the more sweet as it had been a stunning comeback that saw them claim victory.
With the matches at the Feile na nOg only 15 minutes each way it is not advised to fall behind early but that is exactly what happened to the Brian Boru girls who found themselves ten points down inside the first six minutes of the game.
Despite shipping three early goals however the Kinawley girls were not to be denied and by half time had swept in two goals of their own to half the deficit.
In the second half they were to dominate the possession stakes as well as the scoring stakes. Keeping their opponents to just four points they hit 1-06 at the other end to secure a famous victory for the club.
The weekend had opened up with two narrow defeats in their first two group games before victory over Carbary qualified for the Shield.
Now with the winning habit they defeated Clan na Gael by four points in the shield quarter final before a nine point win over St Fechin’s, County Louth saw them qualify for the final.
On a weekend when the whole squad were heroes there were particularly good performances from goalkeeper Clodagh Reilly, defenders Kate Murphy, Sadie Keenan and Orla Leonard. In midfield Kieva Gilleece and Caoimhe Hamilton were always to the fore while in attack Keelan Murphy, Chloe McManus and Elisha McDermott were always eye catching.
