Enniskillen pair Robert Baloucoune and Claire Boles have been selected to represent their respective Ireland teams at the Rugby World Cup Sevens which will be held at AT&T Park in San Francisco’s Bay Area from July 20-22.
The tournament features the world’s top 24 men’s and 16 women’s teams who will battle it out for honours.
Baloucoune has been named in the Ireland Men’s 7s squad. The Enniskillen player has been a regular in the squad in recent times and was involved in the Worlds Sevens Series in London and Paris with Ireland performing well in both.
Ireland enter the competition ranked 16th and they will face Chile in their opening fixture on Friday July 20, with the winners going on to face World Series Champions South Africa in the last 16, while the losers will move into the Bowl Quarter-Finals.
Also making the trip to San Francisco is Claire Boles who is part of the Ireland Women’s Sevens squad for the tournament.
Boles, who plays with Railway Union RFC, has made great strides and will be hoping that Ireland can make an impact on this stage.
Ireland face England in the opening Round of 16 match on Friday, with the winner progressing to the Championship Quarter-Final against either Mexico or New Zealand, while the loser will go into the Quarter-Finals of the Challenge competition.
It will certainly be a proud moment for Enniskillen RFC to see two of their former players representing Ireland on the world stage.
