The Quinn Building Products Senior Championship gets underway this weekend, with three of the four quarter finals down for decision.

Roslea and Derrygonnelly must wait a little longer than the other six teams vying for the New York Cup and many will see the eventual winner of the Shamrocks and Harps clash as the firm favourites to lift the trophy.

Indeed before a ball is kicked Derrygonnelly have a vice like grip on that favourites tag.

Going for four in a row the Harps have been the dominant force in Fermanagh football and are coming into this championship with 18 wins from 18 league games.

They also have the confidence of reaching an Ulster club semi final last year when they were only pipped by Cavan Gaels after a draw, a game they should have won.

They will not take their eyes off another Fermanagh senior title but should they win it it is hard to shake the notion that they will be fully focused on a crack at Ulster, more than any other Fermanagh club at senior level would.

Dripping in talent their defence is bolstered by Eamon McHugh, Tiarnan Daly and Mickey Jones.

Ryan Jones and Garvan Jones form a formidable midfield and in attack Paul Ward and Conall Jones do much of the scoring.

But it is the ability of their lesser known players which is their greatest strength and they will be a tough nut to crack.

There are plenty looking to take their crown however, not least Roslea who have Peter McGinnity back in charge.

McGinnnity led Roslea to four championships in five seasons between 2010 and 2014 and has something of the midas touch.

With Seamus and Sean Quigley they have two enigmatic and mesmeric talents with the ability to score from almost any position.

Kevin Cosgrove will be a loss around the middle of the field and one Quigley may be needed here to bolster their efforts while Niall Cassidy, James McMahon and Conor Quigley are all excellent contributors.

Ederney will meet Belcoo this weekend and the St Joseph’s club will know that they have a squad capable of causing anyone problems.

Paul and Declan McCusker are the driving force but they have a lot of young talent, particularly in attack with Ryan Morris and Sean Cassidy both enjoying tremendous leagues.

If they click Ederney will be hard to beat.

Belcoo meanwhile have been steadily improving after a rocky start to their Division Two campaign.

They have been in a rich vein of form and with Brian Cox, Niall McGovern, Paul McGrath and the impressive Aaron Dolan they have quality among their ranks.

Teemore also operated in Division Two this season and they topped the pile.

A hardened team the influence of Cian McManus and Eoin McManus in attack and defence is vital. They still have the presence of Barry Owens to call upon as well and they will not fear Devenish in the first round.

For Devenish it has been an up and down year.

After winning the league last year and reaching the championship final they were scrapping to avoid a place in the relegation playoffs this season.

With that achieved they should be able to wipe the slate clean for championship.

Tom Treacy in goal is a key figure while Barry Mulrone can play in any are of the pitch and be effective.

Tempo and Erne Gaels meet tomorrow night (Friday) to get the championship up and running.

For Tempo it has been a tough season and they finished bottom in Division One.

The loss of Lorcan McStravick has been a huge blow and they will need to find some fire power in attack.

Still very reliant on Damien Kelly Tempo are also able to call on the services of Aidan Breen who has the quality to take over games.

Erne Gaels have also had their problems this season and failed to avoid the relegation play offs.

They have a lot of talent still within their ranks and reached a final two years ago.

Ryan Lyons, Michael Og McGarrigle and the Kelm brothers, Ultan and Oisin are all top performers and they will know that finding a little bit of form could propel them a long way.
