Belnaleck and Maguiresbridge will battle it out again tonight (Thursday) after the sides played out a draw in their Intermediate Championship Quarter Final at Brewster Park on Saturday evening.
In a game of two halves, the first controlled by Belnaleck and the second by Maguiresbridge, both camps are happy enough to have another bite of the cherry as they look to progress through to a semi-final meeting with Enniskillen.
Belnaleck manager Colm Bradley was pleased with his side’s display in the opening 30 minutes and he was also encouraged by the way they fought back after Maguiresbridge had taken the lead in the second half.
“I thought we performed really well in the first half.
“Unfortunately they got a run on us in the second half and scored 1-03 without reply and that was disappointing. And from that point it would have been very easy to lose the game but we rallied well and it was pleasing to see us come from behind twice to draw the game.
“So in the end we are frustrated with certain aspects of our second half performance but also very thankful of getting a second bite of the cherry.”
Maguiresbridge manager Cathal Murphy admits he would have settled for a draw at half time.
“We would have taken a draw at half time. Our first half performance was very dismal but we picked things up in the second half and I was pleased with the response. I thought we showed a lot more aggression after being very lethargic in the first half. Maybe we could have won it but we are just happy to have another crack at it,” he stated.
Murphy knows that if his side are to come through at the second time of asking then they cannot play as they did in the first half.
“No two games are the same, it will be a different ball game again but we can’t afford to play like we did in the first half,” he added.
And Bradley says that it is the side that deals best with the pressure who will win through.
“Sometimes a replay can be a very different type of game but from our point of view it is simply about looking at what we did well and also on what we need to improve. We mixed the good and the bad so we have a lot to work on. I’m sure the Bridge feel the same way. Championship always comes down to how best you deal with the pressure and it will be no different when the sides meet again.”
