ENNISKILLEN runners enjoyed a day out at the seaside at the weekend with a huge field of athletes converging on Bundoran for one of Ireland’s most popular races.

The Cara Bundoran 10 miler is the flagship event in a weekend of racing hosted by the Donegal town, with over 800 people toeing the line in it alone. And as the runners flew down Roguey to finish at the seafront, it was two of Enniskillen Running Club’s finest who made a huge splash to claim podium positions.

Conan McCaughey continued his fantastic early season form to take third spot in a hotly contested men’s field with a time of 52.52, only 18 seconds behind winner Irish international Gary Murray.

ERC’s Stephen Cassidy was also well to the fore, with his 57.45 time good enough for 11th place. Meanwhile, in the women’s race Breege Connolly of North Belfast Harriers showed her class by storming across the line in 57.40.

Again though there was a podium placing to celebrate for Enniskillen as Martsje Hell, who has only recently taken up the sport, grabbed a hugely impressive third spot with a time of 65.49.

ERC’s Irene Clements was also rewarded for her efforts with her 72.02 timing securing her second place in the female over-50 category.

These weren’t the only successes for Fermanagh runners as Karen Dolan was first lady home in the previous evening’s 5k (20.44). Ahead of her were young St Michael’s duo Jack Scallon (17.20) and Ryan Flanagan (17.29) who took second and third spots respectively - and then both competed impressively in the 10-miler the following day too. The 5k was won by Ronan Wogan of Precision Timing (17.11).

Despite a challenging course and the ever-present Bundoran breeze, the large Enniskillen contingent posted plenty of PBs in the main 10-mile event on a day to remember for the club. The other ERC finishers were Michael Walsh (62.47), Dave Slater (64.48), Tom Sheridan (65.51), Ciaran Clancy (66.36), Malcolm Browne (68.49), Rory O’Donnell (70.09), John McDonnell (71:13), Andrea Kennedy (72.53), Karen Dolan (73.29), Oonagh Fitzpatrick (76.09), Linda Walsh (76.12), Sandra Wilson (76.51), Lorraine Browne (78.43), Mark Burns (78.46), Tracey McEvoy (81.45), Adrian Power (82.42), Allan Wilson (83.01), Annette Hughes (83.24), Finbar Maguire (85.56), Gordon McKenzie (90.26), Aaron Higgins (101:45)
