Mount Lourdes pupil Edel Monaghan enjoyed great success at the Ulster E-District Cross Country Championships in Necarne yesterday. Competing in the Intermediate Girls section, Monaghan raced her way to the gold medal ahead of Sacred Heart Omagh pair Caelainn McQuaid and Toni Moore.

The day started with the Mini Girls race which saw Ava Thompson (Devenish College) produce a fine display to secure a bronze medal while Casey Howe (Enniskillen Collegiate) came home in fifth and Shannon Murphy (Mount Lourdes) claimed seventh spot.

In the Mini Boys, Devenish College’s Irvine Joel narrowly missed out on a medal, claiming fourth place with St. Comhghall’s, Lisnaskea’s Oisin May securing tenth.

Mount Lourdes had four runners in the top 20 in the Minor Girls race; Saoirse Lavelle (8th), Bronadh Duffy (12th), Rhiannon Dolan (13th) and Laura McCaffrey (18th) while in the Minor Boys event, Erne Integrated College student Jordan Slevin was just outside the top ten in 12th place.

There was a strong showing from local athletes in the Junior Girls with four placed in side the top ten. Lucia Warnock (St. Fancheas) came home fourth with Aoife Farrell (Mount Lourdes) sixth, Alannah Leonard (St. Aidan’s Derrylin) 8th and Abbie Barrett (Erne Integrated) 9th.

In the Junior Boys Ronain Maguire of Erne Integrated was the highest finishing local, clinching 11th spot.
