Helen Stockdale brought her national medal haul this year to ten with a golden display at the Northern Ireland Masters Track and Field Championships at the Mary Peters Track on Saturday.

Stockdale competed in four races at the event and returned home with four gold medals to complete a truly successful year on the track.

“I’m chuffed to bits with the four gold medals. It has been a long summer but I have picked the races that I have run this year and I’ve targeted medals and championship races,” she said.

The athlete, who took part in the F50 Section, began her day by competing in the 800m which saw her storm home in first place reducing her personal best by 14 seconds.

Ten minutes later Helen was back on track for the 3000m and she made light of the short break between races as she took her second gold medal of the day.

A third gold followed in the 400m and she rounded off a wonderful day by claiming first place in the 1500m.

“To have won ten national medals this year means it has been a pretty good season. There has been a huge amount of work put in and it would not have been possible with the support I have received,” she added.

Helen though will not be resting on her laurels and is already back in training for the forthcoming Cross-Country season.

“I had a couple of easy days and then it was straight back into it as the focus now switches to cross-country,” she stated.

Meanwhile, the meeting was also a huge success for Denise Toner who claimed three gold medals in the F35 Section. Denise came out on top in the 400m, 800m and 1500m to ensure that she too was one of the big success stories of the championship.
